Socheata become the first CESPA Coordinator
In December 2017, after a thorough selection process, SEFED project team and CESPA’s Board members decided to hire Socheata as the very first CESPA Coordinator. Her first day of work coincided with a Board meeting, which allowed her to meet with the members and to familiarize herself with the association.
Before joining CESPA, Socheata used to work with farmers and communities, where she developed strong skills in management and training, and spent quite some time in the field. She is now very excited to work for CESPA. She already met many members in the field, and she started to plan her daily activities in the office. She admitted she would need some time to familiarize herself with the association’s current reforms (new internal regulations, new membership registration process, new monitoring system…), but she is counting on the existing Board members to answer her questions and build her capacity rapidly. In less than two months coordinating CESPA’s activities, Socheata already supported the organization of the last Board meeting, assisted in the launch of CESPA’s membership registration, collected membership fees, and opened CESPA’s bank account. Currently she is collecting ICS data in the field, supporting quality control at producers’ level, and managing day-to-day activities.
The main activities of CESPA take place in Kampong Chhnang where most of the members (NLS-NKS producers and distributors) live. Besides, the clay for stove production is of better quality in Kampong Chhnang than in other provinces in Cambodia, which makes pottery products from this province well-known nationwide. Originally from Kandal province, Socheata is now glad to work and live in Kampong Chhnang, which looks very much like her hometown.
Sopheata’s ambition is to strengthen CESPA and to support the association in becoming fully independent. No doubt she will successfully honor her mandate!
A new momentum for the association
CESPA’s President Vann Tola declared to be very happy with Socheata’s arrival, and confident that her presence will highly benefit to the association. Socheata will dedicate her full time to CESPA, which could not be the case of the voluntary Board members, also occupied with their own business. Vann Tola hopes that Socheata’s presence will give momentum to the association and be the starting point of CESPA’s self-empowerment in the near future.
